Networks’ View of Palin: Dunce or Demon
A new CMI study reveals that broadcast networks aired 18 negative stories for every positive story on Sarah Palin during a two-week period before and after the vice presidential debate. Subsequently, Palin’s “unfavorable” ratings shot up 17 percent in one month. The report, A Study in Character Assassination: How the TV Networks Have Portrayed Sarah Palin as Dunce or Demon, by CMI Senior Editor Brian Fitzpatrick and CMI Research Assistant Colleen Raezler, finds the networks promoting three distinct and false storylines about Palin: She’s unqualified and unintelligent, conservatives reject her, and she’s simply McCain’s attack dog.

‘Character’ in Presidential Primary Debates
CMI examined all the questions asked of the candidates in 35 debates. The Special Report: ‘Character’ the Most Important Issue in the Presidential Primary Debates, by CMI Director Robert Knight and CMI Research Assistant Colleen Raezler, finds that although Democrats got nearly twice the number of softballs than the Republicans, Democrats faced three times the number of hardballs on “honesty.”
